Public Records Requests

Government Code Section 6253(c)

Each agency, upon a request for a copy of records, shall within 10 days from receipt of the request determine whether the request in whole or in part seeks copies of disclosable public records in possession of the agency and shall promptly notify the person making the request of the determination and the reasons therefore. In unusual circumstances the time limit prescribed in the seciton may be extended by written notice by the head of the agency or his or her designee to the person making the request setting formth the reasons for the extension and the dat on which a determination is expected to be dispatched. No notice shall specify a date that would result in an extension for more than 14 days. When the agency dispatches the determination and if the agency determines that the request seeks disclosable public records the agency shall state the estimated date and time when the records will be made available.

How to request copies of public records

1. To request inspection and/or copies of public records, please complete and submit the public records request form (PDF) and present it to the Office of the City Clerk. If you are unable to download and print the PDF form, you may request a form be mailed or faxed or emailed to you by calling the City Clerk's Office at (530) 542-6005. Please Note: For records pertaining to Police Department, please contact Police Records Division at (530) 542-6100.

2. Please be specific in your request so that records can be more easily identified. If you need assistance in clarifying the scope of your request, please contact the Office of the City Clerk and we will be happy to assist you in refining your request.
