In keeping with the voters' mandate as voiced through the successful passage of Measure Z, all motel, hotel and vacation rentals will be subject to the $1 per night fee, beginning midnight, December 5. ( See Ordinance No. 924).

"All businesses and individuals who currently collect TOT are responsible for collecting the new $1 per night fee as well," said City Attorney DiCamillo. ''Any room or property that is rented after December 5 is subject to the fee, regardless of when the reservation may have been booked."

Measure Z adds the $1 fee to current 10% Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT). The fee is also added to redevelopment properties subject to the 12% TOT.

"Instructions and a second reporting form will be mailed in December to all businesses and individuals showing how to report the additional fee," DiCamillo said. "However, the process is simple - one dollar must be collected each night in addition to the current TOT, then reported and paid to the City."

Adjustments to the business license fee, also approved by voters, will become effective for new businesses as they request a business license. For businesses renewing a license, the new fee will be applied in July. ( See Ordinance No. 925).
