Meet Our STAR Camp Leaders
Meet Our Summer 2015 Rock-STAR Team- 2016 autobiographies coming soon!
Hey all! My name is Ashley Capece and I am super excited to be involved with STAR Camp this year! These kids are our future, so it’s great to be involved with a program that keeps their minds and bodies active and learning while they’re away from school. I love anything in the water, soccer, frisbee, arts and crafts, and most of all music! In 2011, I graduated from Fresno State with a BS in Criminology, so your kid’s safety is my number one priority. I am also CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard certified. Can’t wait to meet you all and for the summer fun to start!
Hello my name is Lloyd and I have lived in Tahoe my entire life. I love being able to live here and call Tahoe my home! I enjoy being active and meeting new people. I like to hike, ride bikes, and disk golf. In the winter, I love to ski. I also love music, enjoy playing drums, and guitar. I am currently EMR and CPR/AED certified and I will be working on getting my EMT certificate this fall at the community college. I enjoy being able to work with the community, and I look forward to a great summer!
Hey guys my name is Aléjandro (Alé) and this is my second summer at STAR camp! I'm originally from New England and have spent the last five years going to college and working in Boston. I have spent a great deal of time coaching and mentoring underprivileged youth throughout the country and look forward to bringing my passion and skills to the camp here this summer. I love camping, hiking, mountain biking and snowboarding; and I can't wait to spend my summer at STAR camp in beautiful Lake Tahoe!!!
Hey guys, I'm Tommy G. I've been with STAR Camp for three awesome summers now, and every spring I look forward to seeing all your smiling faces once again! I am originally from Massachusetts, but I come to Tahoe after 13 years in sunny Sarasota, FL, where I spent a great deal of my time volunteering with the youth in my community,as a camp counselor for Mary Selby Botanical Gardens, as a teachers aid in a 3rd grade classroom, and as a youth football coach. I am an avid outdoorsman and a big believer in environmental stewardship. I feel truly privileged to share my knowledge with the younger generations. One of my goals for this summer is to camp at Lake Aloha- I can't believe I haven't yet! Can't wait to meet everyone-and don't forget to eat a healthy breakfast and fuel up for fun!
Hi! My name is Stephanie. I am originally from Florida and wanted to live closer to the mountains, so I moved to South Lake Tahoe. I love to be outdoors and active. I think Lake Tahoe has so much to offer and is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. I enjoy rock climbing, hiking, backpacking, yoga, water activities like stand up paddle boarding, cooking, gardening, learning and being social. I am looking forward to spending the summer sharing my passion for outdoor adventure with you! A few of my favorite places in Tahoe are DL Bliss State Park and Angora Lakes. I hope to explore many new places and create new memories this year. One of my goals for the summer is to hike five new peaks, especially Mt. Tallac.
Kelly Peacock (Ms. Peacock):
Hi! My name is Kelly Peacock. I hail from the beautiful Wallowa Mountains in Northeast Oregon where I developed a love of many things outdoors. During the winter, I can often be found on the mountain, riding the powder or cruising down a freshly groomed run. In the summer, I dedicate as much time as possible to mountain biking, camping, swimming, and disc golf. When I am not outside playing, I am most at home in a classroom, sharing my love of exploration, learning, and adventure with eager young minds. I am passionate about serving children and families. My Bachelor’s in Psychology and Master’s in Teaching have served me well in such pursuits. Lake Tahoe has proven a great fit for the active and healthy lifestyle that I lead, and I can't wait to share the boundless opportunities Lake Tahoe has to offer with the children and families of STAR Camp!
Haley von Schottenstein:
Hey all! My name is Haley von Schottenstein and I am a recent grad from Whittier College with a BA in kinesiology. I plan on eventually returning to graduate school for occupational therapy, specializing in pediatrics. Kids are truly an inspiration to me because they encourage me to laugh, to never grow up, and to simply enjoy life. This will be my second year at STAR Camps and I am very excited for another fun and action-packed summer! I have been a competitive swimmer since the age of 5, and I have spent the majority of my life in the water, whether that was a pool, a lake, or an ocean. Lake Tahoe is the perfect location to let me show off some of my skills and teach some of them to the kids. Let’s get ready to make a SPLASH OF A SUMMER!
