UPDATE: Winter storm warning in effect; heavy snow, travel problems likely

South Lake Tahoe, CA- A Winter Storm Warning is in effect as the City of South Lake Tahoe gears up for another round of intense winter weather.

Heavy snowfall is anticipated Friday night into Saturday. According to the National Weather Service, snow could total 1 foot above 6,000 feet with winds gusting over 70mph in some places. On top of all of that, another storm is expected Sunday into Monday which could pile on more snow. For up to date weather information, click here. Drivers should anticipate delays and increased travel time throughout the weekend. Travel could be very difficult as conditions worsen and is not advised. "The early weekend storm could start off as wet, which could bring flooding concerns to the area," said Chris Fiore, City of South Lake Tahoe Communications Manager, "We are urging the public to take this storm seriously." 

Remember, the city has two locations open for people to come to get sandbags if they need them. 

  •  City Public Works Yard, 1160 Rufus Allen Blvd. 
  •  Fire Station 3, 2101 Lake Tahoe Blvd. 

You will need to fill your own bags and transport them back to your home. Please leave the shovels so that other residents may use them. Access to sandbags is available during normal business hours, Monday-Friday 7:30am-4pm.
