July is Parks Make Life Better Month

The City Parks and Recreation Department is participating in the California Parks and Recreation Society statewide campaign celebrating the month of July as “Parks Make Life Better” month by partnering with several local groups to offer a variety of events designed to promote the many benefits of our parks as well as strengthen the community through people, parks, and programs. Please join us at the following locations to celebrate programs that highlight recreation, history, culture, wildlife, and natural healing benefits of City parks and open spaces. These programs are free of charge however donations to the program sponsor are encouraged.

Tuesday, July 13th Lake Tahoe History Talk - Sponsored by Lake Tahoe Historical Society

This week’s Tahoe History Talks on the Beach will be with author, radio host, writer Robin Holabird who will share the movie scene at Lake Tahoe. She was also the Nevada film commissioner so knows all the fun details! Ex: What do Whitney Houston, Ryan Reynolds, Tom Cruise, and Elizabeth Taylor all have in common? They all made movies in the region. The event is free though donations are accepted. 

Tune-Up Tuesdays – Sponsored by Bijou Bike Park Association and TAMBA

This weekly event, every Tuesday from 6-7 pm, is open to the public where organizers perform basic maintenance and show people the proper care of the riding surfaces. This event is free.  

Intro to Disc Golf – Sponsored by South Tahoe Disc Golf Association

Disc Golf Association volunteers will be on hand to offer instruction and demonstrate the sport of disc golf to beginners interested in learning the fun sport of disc golf. This event is free. 

Bike Park Education and Skills Demonstration – Sponsored by Bijou Bike Park Association and TAMBA

Sponsors will provide a small demo with volunteer riders and also share some basic bike maintenance tips. This event is free.  


New Recreation and Aquatics Center Project

The City of South Lake Tahoe is in the design process for the construction of a new Recreation and Aquatics Center and is seeking public input and participation.
